Vauxhall Show 2019 Report
Storm Hannah? Never heard of her! You lot certainly weren’t letting her dampen your spirits or ruin your weekend which was great to see. We really do take our hats off to those of you that braved it in a tent on Saturday night, that must have been hardcore. The good news is though, it meant you were on site, bright and early for the inaugural “Vauxhall Show” here at Santa Pod.
The Autoglym Show & Shine saw some very worthy winners with entrants clearly putting a lot of work into all aspects of their cars, including exterior, interior, under the bonnet and even underneath. Your winners are as follows:
Vauxhall Corsa B
Full build with custom paint job, engine work, custom interior, Porsche alloys and much more!
Open Kadett D Bieber Cabrio
The only example in the Country and what an example it is! Mods include 3 piece Schmidt alloys and 3p airlift suspension
1961 Cresta restored as if it could have driven straight to the track from the factory
Vauxhall Vectra C
Craigs Vectra just ticked all of the boxes for the judges with some mods in all the right places!
Vauxhall Astra Bertone
James’ Astra only featured a handful of subtle mods but the presentation of the whole car was incredible.
Although chilly, thankfully the rain stayed away for the day which meant the track was open and the show was well and truly on. With plenty of track time available, it was certainly made the most of by those of you willing to put your cars through their paces with some of you notching up 10+ runs throughout the day!
Class A – Road Legal - Top 5
There was also a host of invited Vauxhall demo vehicles who set the bar in terms of ¼ mile times throughout the day. Carl Hartley with the Rusty Bullet set the quickest time of the day with a 10.22 pass closely followed by 2018 Doorslammers winner Stephen Ray with his Astra van who ran a 10.31.
Whilst those above were the quickest Vauxhalls on track, the Fireforce 3 jet funny car recorded a couple of storming 5.9 second runs with the fastest at a mightily impressive 265mph.
The live action arena was a hive of activity throughout the day as we saw world record holding stunt driver Terry Grant performing throughout the day along with quad riding stunt man Jason Smyth and the mighty Podzilla monster truck which was last seen bursting a wheel in the arena! The arena was also opened up for the autotest, offering the smaller, more nimble Vauxhalls a time to shine. Congratulations to Dominic Brooks in his Corsa B for setting the quickest time of the day with an impressive time 29.81 seconds and having a lot of fun whilst doing it.
The live stage was hosted by local radio station NLive radio 106.9fm with a variety of bands and activities so thanks to them for the support, we hope you enjoyed the show!
So that’s a wrap, The Vauxhall Show 1! The club displays were awesome so we hope you enjoyed the day and look forward to welcoming you back to the Vauxhall show 2 in 2020. Thanks for coming along and supporting the show because without you guys, there wouldn’t have been a show so we appreciate for your commitment, even in the cold! If you can’t wait until next year, don’t forget that we have another new show in the form of Fast Show Reloaded on Sunday 30th June amongst other opportunities to get your Griffin to the Pod. See www.santapod.com for our full calendar.
